Bellevue leads state in effort to cut carbon emissions

The city of Bellevue is leading the charge against climate change.  Olympia has modeled an online pledge formthat was first handed out to Bellevue sixth graders last spring. This pledge helps people identify actions they're already taking to reduce their carbon footprint, and what other steps canBigfoot help them reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"In Washington, transportation accounts for almost half the state's total carbon footprint", according to the city of Bellevue's website.

On November 4th, Puget Sound residents will vote on a $17.9 billion package for regional transportation improvements that will include East Link, a proposed extension of the light rail to Bellevue and Kirkland.  The Bellevue city council has created a Fact Sheet for summary information on this subject.
